Michael Murphy.
Senior Creative / Author / Exhibitor / Artist

I am Santa Monica native currently working hard in advertising and just finished a new book called “Googie Modern”, Angel City Press. Outside of the work life, I chase a sometimes curious life of volunteering for the Venice Heritage Museum, onewheeling, cycling, aeroponic gardening, cooking, parenting, and husbanding. All not too far from the ocean, gratefully.

I have over 20 years of brand design/advertising experience creating IMPACT, VALUE and EXCITEMENT. I have led projects with a sophisticated design sense in tight timelines, bringing them to completion with hands-on production, side by side with the client. I have lead teams of designers, multi-location photoshoots, and designed 5 room exhibits that traveled the country, all with passion, care for detail, and leadership.

Specifically in agency life, I have led design standards across product launches and one-of-a-kind campaigns from brief to delivery as well as defining brand standards into the future for 360 campaign thinking and implementation. I have teamed up with of art directors, copywriters, UI/UX designers, program managers, and content producers to create innovative new concepts through design systems. Using strategic positioning, design and animation to create the story on any platform resulting in wider audiences’ participation and increased sales.

On the rare occasion I do make ART.

I was classically trained in Paul Buckner’s sculpture department in figurative art, at the University of Oregon, where I also walked-on to the basketball team. I then transferred to University of Southern California, where I studied under art icons Ken Price, John Mason, and Robbie Conal.
